I have pointed out that the services which Mr. Ross performs as District Officer at Taipo are of exceptional value to the Govern- -ment, and if you should approve of my recommendation of Mr. Fletcher for the post of Assistant Colonial Secretary I would

PML 13 strongly urge that Mr. Ross should be allowed to draw the dollar

salary of the Second Class, namely 74,800 to 85,400, while paying

rent for the quarters, as long as he is unmarried, at the rate of

£600 a year. I have accordingly telegraphed to you to suspend 28724 action on my Confidential Despatch of the 15th. July in the mean-

For the post of Head of Sanitary Department I

2223 have already in my Confidential Despatch of the 10th. June re-

-commended the appointment on probation of Mr. G. N. Orme, who is

at present Assistant District Officer, New Territories (Northern

District).
